Set out to offer world standard services with the vision of becoming a centre of reference in healthcare Anadolu Medical Centre carries on introducing pioneering technologies and innovations to the Turkish public.
In this context Anadolu Medical Centre Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Reproduction Department Director Professor Aydın Arıcı, M.D.’s new Metabolomix Method - developed in cooperation with his team at Yale University where he has a resident chair – intended to prevent multiple pregnancies by selecting the healthiest embryo is introduced at Anadolu Medical Centre for the first time in Turkey, simultaneously with important healthcare institutions around the world.
Selecting the healthiest embryo is now possible!
Talking at the press meeting to introduce the all-new Metabolomix Method – a source of pride for Turkey -developed together with his team Professor Aydın Arıcı said, “Thanks to the metabolomix method we are now able to prevent multiple pregnancies by selecting the healthiest embryo. Results are very promising. The chance of becoming pregnant for women under 35 with current methods by single embryo transfer selected according to appearance only was no higher than 25-30%. Whereas the chance of pregnancy with the Metabolomix method rises to 50% with single embryo transfer and 80% with double embryo transfer.”
Sharing information on the use of the metabolomix method Professor Aydın Arıcı said, “Embryos continue their existence inside a fluid that provides it nutrition. No different to humans they eat, drink and later discard their intake in the form of urine and faeces. Similar to performing urine and faeces tests to determine human health problems we are now able to investigate embryo waste products with this groundbreaking new method. We use a sophisticated device called a “spectrophotometer” capable of analysing hundreds of waste products. Thanks to the method we can draw out the embryo profile and consequently identify whether it is healthy without making assumptions based on appearance. Consequently we can prevent multiple pregnancies by only transferring the healthiest embryo.”
99% prevention on multiple pregnancies!
Professor Aydın Arıcı said that the Metabolomix Method had 99 percent effectiveness on preventing multiple pregnancies however, although very rare, multiple pregnancies might develop by natural division although only a single embryo is transferred.
New regulation to prevent unhealthy births!
At the same meeting Professor Aydın Arıcı also spoke about the Ministry of Health’s new “Regulation on assisted fertilisation treatment practices and assisted fertilisation treatment centres” introducing certain directives on in-vitro fertility: “According to the new regulation only a single embryo is transferred into the mother’s womb in the first and second attempt if the female’s age is under 35. It is only after these two failed attempts that two embryos are transferred. Two is the maximum limit in all cases. It is impossible to transfer more than two embryos for patients over the age of 35. In other words the new regulation entirely bans the transfer of more than two embryos. This decision will prevent unhealthy births” says Arıcı who went on to add, “Up to now there was an uncontrolled approach to embryo transfer with no limit on numbers. This reflected an understanding with little value human health and life. In my opinion healthy in-vitro fertilisation treatment is a single healthy pregnancy. Twins are acceptable but anything more is in essence the failure of in-vitro fertilisation treatment. Because pregnancies exceeding twins subjects both the mother and babies to great health risks. The risk of premature birth is very likely in triplets and quadruplets. Premature birth risk in triplets is as high as 60 percent. This also increases the likelihood of complications during birth and unhealthy babies. Having an unhealthy baby at the end of all these efforts is a great predicament for the family and the baby.”
Metabolomix Method will reduce the financial burden on couples!
The methods relieve the financial burden on couples undergoing in-vitro fertilisation treatment. Speaking on the issue Anadolu Medical Centre Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Reproduction Department Director Professor Aydın Arıcı said, “The method is not so expensive. Developing it was certainly costly however at the end of the day it can be practiced on all females undergoing in-vitro fertilisation treatment and the slight rise in costs is insignificant. Actually the total cost goes down since the method ensures the transfer of the healthiest embryo.”
