Dentistry lets us design your smiling style even according to your job. Anadolu Medical Center (AMC) Dentist Alper Çıldır, tells us about the secrets of an attractive smile.
In an ideal smile; corners of the lips move backwards symmetrically, dark corridors that are between edges of lips and teeth at the both sides are seen equal, when upper lip is pulled up while smiling it stops at the point where teeth and gums fuse, and do not move upwards any more. If all these criteria are found in a smile, then it becomes an attractive smile.
Triangular gums between teeth have another important effect on smile. While having an attractive smile, only these triangular parts of the gums are seen not totally the gums. And upper lip moves until the fusion point of teeth and gums. “Red Aesthetic” is the term used to define the ideal apperance of the healthy gums while smiling, and the term “White Aesthetic” is used to define the ideal amount of appearance and ideal appearance in position of the teeth. In an ideal smile, white and red aesthetic complete each other.
How do you design the smile ?
While we designing the smile, we talk to the patients. We ask them whether they are happy with their smile, whether they can easily laugh in a meeting. Then we decide together for the deficiencies of the patient. We assess the structure of lips and mandible, ratio of teeth with face and we make a plan. After that, we create a design according to this plan. If there is any problem related with the soft tissue in the face, the we consult the patient to an aesthetic surgeon and assess the patient together. We assess the movement of the upper lip milimetrically, thickness and height of the lips, and also harmony of the nose with lips.
What do you do, if the gums are extremely seen ?
If there is excess of gums, we cut the exceeding parts of the gums like manicuring. That does not bleed as much as it is thought. One hour after the application, the patient can return to his daily life. These operations are called as red aesthetic.
Does everyone is applicable for aesthetic of the gums ?
Healthy gums do not bleed and have a color of dusty rose. Gums have to be very healthy and there must not be an inflammation or bleeding in them for red aesthetic can be done. Additionally, the development of the patient must be finished before this application.
As the person gets old, what kind of changes occur ?
As the person gets old, upper lip move down and become thinner due to the gravity. Lower anterior incisor teeth are seen more than upper anterior incisor teeth while talking. Start of disappearance of upper teeth can be regarded as a sign of aging. Additionally, decrease in the height of the mouth results in the folding at the edges of the lips. There occur staining and erosion at the teeth. We solve these problems with some magical touches over the teeth in an only one session.
How many Turkish people have an attractive smile ?
There is not a certain data about this subject. But when we examine our patient profile, we see that our patients with an attractive smile are lesser than ones in the European countries. Main factor influencing this is the ignorance of the people against oral hygene and losing of teeth due to this reason. Unfortunately, the number of people with deficient and decay teeth are very much.
Do women or men show more interest in the attractive smile operations ?
Mostly women apply to have an attractive smile. But in the recent years, there is an important increase in the ratio of men. Managers, sales representatives and especially those working in the area of fashion and media are the ones who show the most interest. Having an attractive smile plays an important role on the social position and status of the people. Think over a businessman that has a bad colour of teeth and that does not have a white and red harmony. Of course this person can not be believable and impressive on his workers. Finally we design a smile for a person’s smile.
How do you design it according to the job ?
If this person is a manager, then we prefer angular teeth for the incisor teeth and sharper teeth for the canine teeth. Thus, we provide him an authoritarian appearance. People with rounded or convex teeth or those that does not show his teeth are having more difficulty on creating an authority. We prefer convex and wide teeth for the people working in the area of service and for the sales representatives. We prefer white colour for the teeth of these people.
